Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) Accreditation Fees

The Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) maintains an established fee schedule to support the operations of the accreditation program for applicant, candidate and accredited graduate education programs.

Application fees must be submitted at the time of application (payable to ASHA). Invoices for candidacy and initial accreditation site visits are sent after the visit has been conducted. Annual fees are set on a calendar fiscal year and CAA-accredited and candidate programs are invoiced accordingly.

Institutions that have accredited programs in audiology and speech-language pathology with different accreditation cycles (e.g., 8 years and 5 years) will be charged the annual fee for the shorter cycle. This policy has been in effect since January 1, 2007.

The charge for the site visit fee as part of a re-accreditation review is prorated over 5 or 8 years, depending on a program's accreditation cycle, and is included in the annual fee. This policy has been in place for several years in response to programs' wishes to distribute the costs evenly over the accreditation period, rather than have additional site visit charges in the year of an accreditation review.

Renewal of accreditation status is dependent upon timely payment of annual accreditation fees.

Two-Year Phase In of Accreditation Fee Increases

After thoughtful consideration of input received during the Spring 2009 comment period, the CAA voted to increase the annual accreditation fees to be implemented over a two-year phase-in period in 2010-2011. Two-thirds (2/3) of the increase amount for the annual fees was assessed in 2010, and the remaining one-third (1/3) of the increase was applied in 2011. New fees for applications, site visits, and additional modalities were implemented in 2010. The fee schedule was fully implemented as of January 1, 2011.

At its February 2011 meeting, the CAA voted to increase from 2 to 3 the size of the candidacy site visit team to better facilitate completion of all required on-site team activities. This change will result in an increase in the candidacy site visit fee charged to programs, which now will be $4,200.1
