"Communication—Our Strongest Link" is the theme for the 2002 ASHA Convention in Atlanta. Communication is a critical component of the work that we do—communication is what bonds us together as clinicians, researchers, professionals, and human beings.
Communication is not a one-way street—many different elements are involved in the simple act of communication: hearing, speech, language, culture, and body language. And just as these many elements combine to facilitate communication, speech-language pathologists and audiologists collaborate with many other professionals to facilitate their work, advocate for the professions, and provide the highest level of client care.
Have you:
• Partnered with your local hospital to offer free hearing screenings?
• Organized a group of clinicians to oversee the care of a challenging client?
• Worked with your local legislative representative to draft communication-related legislation?
• Enlisted the assistance of other professionals to serve children with communication disorders in order to manage your caseload?
These are just a few examples of collaboration. We want to hear your stories! Submit your collaboration story, and you’ll be entered to win a free trip to the ASHA 2002 Convention (including free registration, three-night hotel stay, and round-trip airfare). Your story also may be featured at the opening general session. Case studies will be published and distributed at the Convention. Submit your stories by email to
convention@asha.org
with "Collaboration Contest" in the subject line. The deadline for submissions is July 1.
