(Rockville, MD - September 24, 2007) Telemundo has been chosen as a winner of the 2007 Media Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Don Browne, president of Telemundo, will accept the award on behalf of the network in a ceremony during the association's November Convention at the Boston Convention Center.
Founded in 1954, Telemundo offers quality programming to the Hispanic community covering such wide-ranging subjects as immigration, health and education that affect their daily lives. A trusted source of information, it broadcasts to 93% of all Hispanic homes with television.
The network is being recognized for superior coverage of the ASHA public education campaign, "American Tuned In Today...But Tuned Out Tomorrow?" Broadcast stories about the campaign, designed to raise awareness of the risk of hearing loss due to the use of popular technology devices such as iPods and MP3 players, reached millions of Hispanic viewers both nationally and globally.
"We are delighted that Don Browne has chosen to attend the ASHA Media Awards ceremony to personally accept Telemundo's award," ASHA President, Noma Anderson says. "Telemundo's broadcast coverage of ASHA's hearing preservation campaign has played a key role in reaching diverse populations."
ASHA is the professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 127,000 speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists in the U.S. and internationally. For more information on speech, language, and hearing disorders, go to ASHA's Web site or call 1-800-638-8255 (TALK).
