Electronic Submission Requirements

  • Ads less than a full page require a border rule.
  • ASHA does not float ads.
  • ASHA reserves the right to refuse, reject, or cancel any ad for any reason at any time without liability.

All advertising must be submitted electronically.

Please provide:

  • Labeled CD/disk with advertiser name, ad name, and publication
  • Printout of items/files on CD/disk
  • Contact color proof for ads with critical color (color reproduction is guaranteed only when a contact proof is supplied)
  • Original Quark/Illustrator/InDesign files and high resolution PDF should be supplied


Acceptable Ad Formats

Adobe Illustrator EPS (Macintosh preferred)

  • Files may not contain transparency options.
  • Output resolution must be no lower than 800 dpi.
  • All imported images must be embedded.
  • Select all text and create outlines in Illustrator, so screen and printer fonts are not required for processing.
  • Save files as Postscript Level 3 EPS.
  • Documetns must be CMYK or grayscale.

QuarkXPress 6.5 and Adobe InDesign for Macintosh

  • Be sure to supply all the elements that went into the files: all fonts, art files (vector EPS, fonts as outlines, and high-resolution CMYK or grayscale or bitmap EPS images). Images should have a resolution no lower than 300 dpi. Bitmap files should have a resolution no lower than 1200 dpi.
  • Custom effects should be applied prior to importing a graphic into the page layout program. Do not use third-party Xtensions (Xpress). Use the correct Adobe Type 1 or open type fonts; do not use TrueType fonts.
  • Do not embed graphics files into InDesign page layout files.
  • Supply a directory for all files copied to the transfer media plus composite lasers for each page and color references for all line art, and color images placed into the files (a single-page SWOP-calibrated file is recommended).

Adobe Acrobat PDF

  • Print your finished ad layout to a PostScript file using LaserWriter Print Driver 8.6 or higher. Color ads should be printed as composite color. Black and white ads should be printed as grayscale.
  • It is very important that you build your ad to the correct size. PDF files cannot be enlarged.
  • Can make PDF from InDesign with preset.
  • All fonts must be embedded or converted to outlines. To do this, you must have all of the fonts used in your digital files available and running correctly when you create your PDF.
  • Do not assign menu styles to text objects in your file.
  • Convert all graphics and images to CMYK.
  • Do not save files using JPEG or LZW compression.
  • Do not use DCS files to create pages that will be converted to PDF.

Camera-Ready Art (CRA) or Film Mechanical Requirements
All advertising submitted as CRA or film will be charged a processing fee of $25 per b/w ad and $100 per 4-color ad. Film negatives must be right-reading and emulsion down. All ads must include an accurate positive proof.

A hard copy proof is required; for b/w ads fax a proof to 913-469-1126.
