Emergency Certification

A Full-Year Special Permit may be issued when a properly certificated teacher is unavailable and the applicant has completed 120 hours of satisfactory college credit, including 15 semester hours of appropriate education credit. This permit may be renewed upon evidence that the individual completed six semester hours of satisfactory additional credit towards the requirements for regular certification.

An Emergency Permit may be issued at the recommendation of the superintendent of a local school district to a candidate with reasonable qualifications if a full-year permit is not available and failure to grant a permit will deprive children of an education. A labor dispute is not considered an emergency.
