A Toast to ASHA-PAC: ASHA members celebrate success on Capitol Hill

Arlene and Neil with LC membersAfter a productive day lobbying Members of Congress, over 100 Legislative Councilors and Executive Board members joined ASHA-PAC for its annual Wine Tasting. Attendees sampled wines from across the globe from the United States to South Africa to New Zealand. Rob Stewart, renowned wine connoisseur from the Smithsonian was on hand to answer any questions about the wines available.

Besides a relaxing evening with colleagues, the ASHA-PAC wine tasting also provided an opportunity for ASHA members to join the PAC’s Gold Circle of $100+ donors. The PAC raised over $6,000 at this event and added 28 ASHA members to the Gold Circle.


FEC makes Annual Legislative Recommendations

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) recently released their annual legislative recommendations to the President and Congress. These recommendations include requiring the electronic filing of campaign finance reports in the Senate and requiring political committees, including ASHA-PAC, to include their FEC identification numbers on contribution checks.

ASHA-PAC Welcomes Freshmen to Capitol Hill
ASHA-PAC recently honored the freshmen Democrats on the House Education and Labor Committee with a reception at the Democratic National Committee Headquarters in Washington. As members of the Majority on the Committee, these Members will have influence over such issues as the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind, The Higher Education Act and IDEA.

Honorees included Reps. Jason Altmire (PA), Dave Loeback (IA), Mazie Hirono (HI), Carol Shea-Porter (NH), John Yarmuth (KY), Joe Sestak (PA) and Phil Hare (IL). Also in attendance was Rep. George Miller, Chair of the House Education and Labor Committee, who praised the new members of his committee. 

A similar event is being planned for the freshmen Republicans on the Committee.
