On Wednesday, October 31st and Thursday, November 1st, ASHA is conducting the "Stop the Therapy Caps Call-In Days" advocacy campaign. During 2007, Congress allowed an exceptions process for outpatient rehabilitation services. This exceptions process allows practitioners to provide care above the cap when medically necessary. The Medicare outpatient therapy cap exceptions process is scheduled to expire at the end of the year. Without Congressional action, Medicare beneficiaries will once again be subjected to outpatient therapy caps.
Please participate by calling your legislators and urging them to extend the Medicare outpatient therapy cap exceptions process before the end of the year. Talking points and your legislators' contact information can be found on ASHA's Take Action site.
In addition, ASHA is co-sponsoring the "Stop the Therapy Caps Advocacy Day" Capitol Hill visit campaign on October 31 in Washington, D.C., along with the American Health Care Association, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, American Occupational Therapy Association, American Physical Therapy Association, and Easter Seals. Members and staff from these provider and patient advocacy organizations will lobby together to ensure that Congress knows of the wide-ranging support for the exceptions process. Many members of Congress will also speak at the event to show their support. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Mundinger, ASHA's Director of Federal and Political Advocacy, by e-mail at emunding@asha.org or by phone at 202-624-5951.
