There are many new International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) codes of interest that will take effect on October 1, 2007. The ASHA proposals for the new disorder diagnoses and services were accepted by the ICD-9-CM Maintenance and Coordination Committee and will improve audiology coding. This message lists the new codes related to the practice of audiology. An explanation of the codes can be found on ASHA's Web site. Audiologists can locate a full listing of all new, revised, and deleted ICD-9-CM codes that become effective on October 1.

- New 389.14 Central hearing loss (Formerly 389.14 Central hearing loss, bilateral)
- New 389.18 Sensorineural hearing loss, bilateral (Formerly 389.18 Sensorineural hearing loss of combined types)
- New 389.7 Deaf nonspeaking, not elsewhere classifiable (Formerly 389.7 Deaf mutism, [nonspeaking], not elsewhere classifiable)
Deleted Disorder Code
- 389.2 Mixed conductive and sensorineural hearing loss
