State association leaders from around the country gathered together to listen to updates about state and federal trends on key policy issues and to network with other leaders during the 22nd annual State Policy Workshop which was held in Portland, Oregon, May 18-19. Highlights from the workshop included interactive sessions regarding strategies to reduce personnel vacancies in schools and healthcare, expanding speech, language and hearing early intervention services for children. As in past years, participants had the opportunity to explore in greater detail issues they identified as priorities within their states. The topics selected for this year’s roundtables were recruitment and retention of SLPs and Audiologists in schools, shortages/funding in university settings, reimbursement, and personnel issues in healthcare.
The location and date for the 2007 State Policy Workshop has been set for Little Rock, Arkansas on May 17-18, 2007. For further information, please contact Eileen Crowe, Director State Association Relations, via e-mail at ecrowe@asha.org or by phone at 800-498-2071, ext. 4221.
