Please contact your Senators immediately to urge them to support the bipartisan budget amendment by Senators Specter (R-PA) and Harkin (D-IA), which is expected to come up for a vote late tomorrow (Wednesday, March 15), by using ASHA’s Take Action Web site.
The Specter-Harkin amendment would provide an additional $7 billion for education and healthcare to the budget. This funding is critical to both students and seniors receiving speech-language pathology and audiology services in schools and health care settings.
Immediate action is crucial to have a reasonable chance of avoiding the reductions and eliminations of education and health care programs proposed in President Bush’s Fiscal Year 2007 budget. For further information, please contact Deb Darcy, ASHA’s Director of Grassroots Advocacy, via e-mail at ddarcy@asha.org or by phone at 800-498-2071, ext. 4427.
