Issue C: A comprehensive scope of practice that includes all of the major components and new areas of practice in communication sciences and disorders enhances the visibility of the professions by consumers and stakeholders and their perceived value of the role of audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
3rd Quarter Highlights
- Conducted an audiology virtual conference on central auditory processing disorders.
- Exhibited at the national AARP conference and provided information on child language development and emergent literacy (for grandchildren).
- Developed resources to assist members providing accent modification services, one aspect of corporate speech-language pathology.
- The 2007 Joint Committee on Infant Hearing position statement on "Principles and Guidelines for Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Programs" is available on the ASHA Web site.
- Disseminated the summer issue of Access Audiology on Large Vestibular Aqueduct (LVA) Disorders.
- Updated the Literacy Gateway Web pages.
- ASHA's President presented information on assessment of young children at a National Assessment Forum held in Washington, D.C.
- Met with the leadership of the American Telemedicine Association and participated in a panel presentation on telepractice at the annual meeting of the American College of Rehabilitation Medicine.
- Published an article in The ASHA Leader (August) on "Perspectives on EHDI Process and Programs."
- Published an issue of Access Audiology on "Buying and Selling a Private Practice."
- Submitted an article on classroom acoustics for publication in the Division on School-Based Issues' "Perspectives."
- Results of the International Survey were published in The ASHA Leader, "Going Global: Survey Gathers CDS Data from 22 Countries," September 4, 2007, page 34.
- ASHA members attended the IALP Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark.
- Information in the speech, language, and swallowing sections of the "for the public" Web site have been updated.
