Appendix G

Duties of the Legislative Council, Executive Board, National Office, and Committees and Boards

 Legislative Council--share governance with the Executive Board

  • approve policies and position statements (each Assembly approves profession specific)
  • identify and rank priorities
  • monitor Executive Board progress reports on work plans related to the priorities
  • vote on membership dues
  • change membership categories
  • approve the Code of Ethics
  • approve official publications
  • set parameters for establishing and dissolving special interest divisions
  • approve the Association's Bylaws
  • create and dissolve Legislative Council committees (Credentials, Honors, Legislative Council Coordinating Committee, Handbook, Committee on National Elections, Committee on Resolutions, Special Rules)
  • in collaboration with the Executive Board, create and dissolve committees with the Legislative Council members (Long Range Strategic Planning Board, Financial Planning Board, Governmental and Social Policies Board)

Executive Board--share governance with the Legislative Council

  • derive annual and multiyear priorities based on ranked priorities identified by the Legislative Council
  • submit priorities to the Executive Director for development of work plans
  • monitor progress on completion of work plans
  • approve Association guidelines and technical reports
  • develop and ratify the Association's budget based on derived priorities
  • create and dissolve standing committees, councils and boards; develop committee and board charge, establish size, and determine length of operation
  • establish and dissolve special interest divisions consistent with procedures established by the Legislative Council
    ratify all Association policies

National Office

  • develop work plans for priorities that include implementation strategies and expense/revenue statements
  • maintain records on work plan implementation for reporting purposes
  • report to Executive Board on progress made in completing the work plans

Committees and Boards

  • complete charge established by Executive Board or Legislative Council
  • report to Executive Board, if established by the Board, or Legislative Council, if established by the Council, on progress in completing charge
