2003 Resolutions of the Legislative Council and Assemblies

At the spring and fall 2003 meetings of the Legislative Council and Assemblies, Councilors considered the following resolutions. Resolutions were either approved, defeated, or withdrawn.

Legislative Council

  • LC 1-2003
    Approve the "Auditory Integration Training" position statement

  • LC 2-2003
    Rescind LC 20-96 and cease implementation of the registration program for Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) and the process of program approval for SLPA technical training programs

  • LC 3-2003
    Establish the Annie Glenn Award as an official award of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association

  • LC 4-2003
    Establish a Media Awards Program to recognize distinguished work related to news coverage and media programming related to communication sciences and disorders.

    Approve The Roles of Speech-Language Pathologists and Teachers of Children Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing In the Development of Communicative and Linguistic Competence: Position Statement

    Require CE providers to indicate on the CE application the level of evidence available to support the efficacy of the clinical procedures advocated in the course and require that this information be included in any publicity for the workshop.

    Amend Section IV 4.2g of the ASHA Bylaws to indicate that a Councilor may be removed from office if they are no longer an ASHA member in good standing

    Approve the document entitled “Knowledge and Skills needed by Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists to Provide Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services”

    Request that the Executive Board facilitate SLPA training program approval by CAAHEP

    Request the Executive Board to explore cost effective options to maintain the registration of Speech-Language Pathology Assistants.
