Abstract: Amend a Previously Adopted Resolution (LC16-2000) to add the Speaker of the Council to the Agenda Setting Group
RESOLVED, That the second resolved of LC16-2000, be amended to read the as follows:
RESOLVED, That the task of preparing agendas for meetings of the Legislative Council be assigned to a delegation from the Legislative Council consisting of the Speaker of the Council, the two Coordinators and two Associate Coordinators of the Legislative Council Assemblies, the two Floor Leaders of Legislative Council, the chair of the Legislative Council Coordinating Committee, the ASHA President-Elect, and the ASHA President who shall serve as chair of this group; and further
RATIONALE: The involvement of the Speaker in setting the agenda for meetings of the Legislative Council is crucial to the successful planning and conducting of the meetings of the Legislative Council. This resolution would bring into existence the ability to fully implement the Speaker position.
OUTCOME(S): The speaker will be able to run an efficient meeting by having a full and complete understanding of the agenda. The speaker would also understand the exact order of events and sequencing of resolutions.
BUDGET IMPACT: The agenda setting group is a subset of the Resolution Committee. No additional funds are required as the Speaker of the Council will be a member of the Resolution Committee.
PROGRAMMATIC IMPACT: If this resolution passes, there is greater probability of a complete and thorough understanding for the speaker. If this resolution fails, the speaker will be asked to run a meeting for which the speaker had no input or idea of what was going to be occurring at a meeting.
