Welcome to THE ASHA 2005 Convention in sunny San Diego, California! This is the first time that ASHA has held its Convention in San Diego, and with the wonderful weather, first-rate hotels and convention center, and exceptional program, it promises to be an excellent experience for everyone.
The Program Co-Chairs, Brenda Ryals and Brian Shulman, have worked with their committees to plan a superb program with a wide variety of sessions supporting the theme, "Using Evidence to Support Clinical Practice." Audiologists will be pleased with the special sessions that have been planned including the keynotes each day. The speech-language pathology sessions will include several speakers on international issues in the discipline. The discipline-wide programs will bring together both professions to learn about the latest information in science and research.
Plan now to attend the Opening General Session at 5:30 pm on Friday, November 18. There will be exciting local entertainment to kick off the program, which will close with a talk by Mavis Leno. Although known for her famous husband, Jay Leno, Mavis Leno has achieved international recognition for her work in advocating for women and children in Afghanistan and other troubled nations. The Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 19, at 5:30 pm, will honor ASHA members for their achievements and will close with a talk by Mick Fleetwood, the founder and leader of the band Fleetwood Mac. On Sunday, November 20, starting at 4:30 pm there will be a special Closing Sunset Party. The party will be held in the Embarcadero Park overlooking the San Diego Bay with a variety of music and good food to enjoy with your friends and colleagues before heading home.
I look forward to welcoming you to San Diego and to ASHA - 2005!
