Joe Montano A Message From the 2002 Chair

Joe Montano
Convention Chair for Audiology

Welcome to the second annual Audiology Convention at ASHA. Following the great success of last year’s meeting in New Orleans, this Convention will continue a new tradition of quality programming for audiologists and hearing scientists. I offer a special thanks to Fred Bess for his insightful work toward the creation of this reformatted Audiology Convention within the ASHA meeting.

The program for audiologists is exciting and diverse: More than 70 instructional courses and seminars, with close to 100 posters and technical sessions, span the 3-day meeting. The Convention Program Committee worked hard reviewing the hundreds of submitted papers and developing a program that offers something for every audiologist.

I want to especially thank the esteemed audiologists and hearing scientists who participated as Topic Coordinators on the Audiology Convention Committee: Roberta Aungst, Ruth Bentler, John Ferraro, Teresa Hnath-Chisolm, Pat Chute, Michael Dennis, Charissa Lansing, Jennifer Lister, Gail Rosenberg, Lynn Spivak, Anne Tharpe, Gwen Wilson and Mike Wynne. It has been a great pleasure to work with Tommie Robinson, my ASHA convention co-chair, and I thank him for all his support. I have been fortunate to work with a wonderful staff at ASHA and have sincere thanks for each of them.

This year’s meeting features three distinguished keynote speakers to open each day’s events. Thursday’s session will begin with an address delivered by Margaret W. Skinner. Friday morning, Harry Levitt will present the Irv Hochberg Memorial Lecture and Saturday will start with a presentation by David Lim. Following the opening sessions, the meeting will continue throughout the day with multiple offerings on varying topics.

Atlanta is a wonderful convention city and it offers a great variety of entertainment for you to meet with your friends and colleagues. The meeting will take place in the Audiology Convention Wing of the Georgia World Congress Center in close proximity to the exhibit hall and discipline-wide program sessions. The Ritz Carlton Hotel has been designated the Audiology Hotel and individuals who preregistered can pick up their convention materials right at the hotel on Wednesday. On-site registration will continue to be in the convention center.

It has been my honor to chair the Audiology Convention at ASHA, and I hope we have provided a meeting you will long remember. So pack your bags and head to Atlanta: It’s the place to be for the Audiology Convention at ASHA!
