Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education
(ED), is inviting applications for the fiscal year (FY) 2017 discretionary
grant competition under the Personnel
Development to Improve Services and Results for Children With Disabilities—Preparation
of Special Education, Early Intervention, and Related Services Leadership
Personnel program. Applications became available on December 7, 2016, and the
deadline for application submission is February 6, 2017.
The grant competition is authorized under the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act. Eligible
applicants are institutions of higher education and private nonprofit
organizations. The purposes of this program are (a) to help address state-identified
needs for personnel preparation in special education, related services, early
intervention, and regular education to work with children, including infants
and toddlers, with disabilities, and (2) to ensure that those personnel have
the necessary skills and knowledge—derived from practices that have been
determined and validated through scientifically based research and experience—to
be successful in serving those children.
