ED Opens FY 2017 Personnel Development Grant Competition

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education (ED), is inviting applications for the fiscal year (FY) 2017 discretionary grant competition under the Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children With DisabilitiesPreparation of Special Education, Early Intervention, and Related Services Leadership Personnel program. Applications became available on December 7, 2016, and the deadline for application submission is February 6, 2017.

Background

The grant competition is authorized under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Eligible applicants are institutions of higher education and private nonprofit organizations. The purposes of this program are (a) to help address state-identified needs for personnel preparation in special education, related services, early intervention, and regular education to work with children, including infants and toddlers, with disabilities, and (2) to ensure that those personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge—derived from practices that have been determined and validated through scientifically based research and experience—to be successful in serving those children.
