Resources to Help Audiologists and SLPs Get Ready for ICD-10-CM

(April 25, 2013)

The transition to ICD-10-CM (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification) will occur in approximately a year and half. Will you be ready on October 1, 2014?

ASHA is developing the following resources for publication on ASHA's ICD-10 webpage June 2013 to help audiologists and speech-language pathologists ensure that they are fully prepared for the transition.

  • ICD-9 to ICD-10 Mapping Tool: Enter an ICD-9 code and this web-based tool will provide a mapping to the appropriate ICD-10 code(s).
  • ICD-9 to ICD-10 Mapping Spreadsheet: This no-frills reference is for those who want to view audiology or speech-language pathology related mappings in one list.
  • ICD-10 Code Lists: Audiology and speech-language pathology related disorders will be culled from approximately 68,000 ICD-10 codes into manageable, discipline-specific lists.

All resources developed by ASHA are tailored to the needs of audiologists and speech-language pathologists and are based on extensive analysis by ASHA staff.

Beginning October 1, 2014, providers will be required to use the new ICD-10 system, which will replace the current ICD-9-CM (International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification). The new ICD-10 will include the ICD-10-CM (clinical modification) for diagnosis codes and the ICD-10-PCS (procedure coding system) for inpatient hospital procedures. ASHA's resources will focus on ICD-10-CM.
