ED Opens FY2013 Personnel Development Grant Competitions

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, is currently inviting applications for the following fiscal year (FY) 2013 discretionary grant competitions under the Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children With Disabilities competition.

  • Preparation of Special Education, Early Intervention, and Related Services Leadership Personnel. Application deadline is March 1, 2013. (Federal Register [PDF], Jan. 15, 2013)

Background

The grant competitions are authorized under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Eligible applicants are institutions of higher education and private nonprofit organizations. The purpose of the program is to (1) help address state-identified needs for highly qualified personnel in special education, early intervention, related services, and regular education to work with children, including infants and toddlers, with disabilities; and (2) ensure that those personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge, derived from practices that have been determined through scientifically based research and experience, to be successful in serving those children.
