HHS Confirms One-Year Delay of ICD-10 Implementation Date

On Friday, August 24, 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed a one-year delay in the implementation compliance date for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition (ICD-10) codes to October 1, 2014.

The ICD-10 compliance date change is part of a final rule that implements several administrative simplification provisions of the Affordable Care Act. The final rule will be published in the Federal Register on September 5, 2012, but can be viewed on the Office of the Federal Register's Electronic Public Inspection Desk [PDF].
