Assessment Areas
Speech and Language - "The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has recently completed an analysis of the data surrounding screening for speech and language disorders for children under five years of age. The U.S. Preventive Task Force gave an "I" recommendation for this practice, which is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against (Nelson, 2006" (p. 30).
Hearing - "There is insufficient evidence to recommend newborn hearing screening by any method (U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, 2001a). Screening for asymptomatic hearing impairment beyond age 3 is not recommended, although thorough follow-up should be provided of potential cases identified by symptoms or thorough school-based screening programs (U.S. Preventive Services Task Force)" (p. 32).
