ASHA Glossary: Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EDHI)

A process that guides professionals and families toward the goals of identifying hearing loss before hospital discharge, diagnosing and confirming the hearing loss, and providing early access to auditory sounds through technology, such as hearing aids and cochlear implants within the first 6 months.  All states and territories/district/commonwealth jurisdictions have EHDI programs; only 43 states have laws.
