Health Care/Business Institute: Continuing Education Credit

How to Confirm Your Attendance and Earn Continuing Education

To confirm your attendance:

  1. Go to the ASHA Event Reporting Center.
  2. Select "ASHA Health Care/Business Institute 2012"
  3. Follow the prompts to enter each session you attended.

Deadline: Monday, May 14, 2012, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time

Who should do this?

Everyone—including students, clinical fellows, international registrants, and non-ASHA members.

This is the only official way to document your attendance and participation for this conference. You do not need to join the ASHA CE Registry to document your CE activities and there is no cost for reporting your attendance with this process.

What sessions count for continuing education credit?

The Opening Plenary session and all concurrent sessions count for CE credit. Activities not offered for CE credit include:

  • Exhibits
  • ASHA Member Forum
  • Committee, Board, or Council Meetings

A few special notes:

  • Session E2, Documentation Workshop, is a three-hour session. You must attend the full three hours to claim it for credit.
  • Session D2, Coding With ICD-10-CM, on Saturday is repeated as session G1 on Sunday. You may earn credit only once for this session.

How much CE credit can I earn at this conference?

You can earn up to 13 professional development hours (PDHs) or 1.3 ASHA continuing education units (CEUs). The number of ASHA CEUs or PDHs you earn is determined by the time you spend in continuing education activities.

Can I get a certificate of attendance?

Yes. First record your attendance.

  1. Go to the Health Care/Business Institute webpage.
  2. Select "Enter CE Credit."
  3. Follow the instructions.

After doing this, you may download and/or print a Certificate of Completion, our official attendance document.

How do I access my professional development records?

After submitting your attendance report, you may access your Certificate of Completion (i.e., attendance record) at any time by going to the ASHA Learning Center; here's how:

  1. Go to the ASHA homepage.
  2. Select "My Account" in the top right corner.
  3. Login using your ASHA login (your e-mail address) and password.
  4. Select "My Courses."
  5. Choose the course or conference name under the "Completed" tab. Then select "Certificate."

What types of CE credit are available for this conference?

Two types of credit are available.

ASHA CEUs are awarded by ASHA's Continuing Education Board through the ASHA CE Registry. ASHA CEUs are widely recognized by state licensure boards and other authorities.

One ASHA CEU is awarded for ten hours of continuing education activity.

You are eligible to earn ASHA CEUs if you fall into one of these categories:

  • ASHA member, life member, or international affiliate
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) holder
  • Licensed or credentialed by a national, state, or provincial regulatory agency (e.g., a state Board of Education) to practice speech-language pathology (SLP) or audiology
  • Engaged in a clinical fellowship under the supervision of an individual holding the ASHA CCC
  • Currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program in SLP or audiology

Professional development hours (PDHs) are a unit of measure for continuing education activities for people who either are not eligible to earn ASHA CEUs, or choose not to join the CE Registry—this includes SLP and audiology assistants and related professionals.

One PDH equals one hour of continuing education.

PDHs from this conference count toward ASHA certification maintenance. Check with your state license board to learn whether PDHs will count toward state license renewal.

Whether you are earning ASHA CEUs or PDHs, follow the same reporting procedures and deadlines.

Don't miss the deadline!

If you have not submitted your CE sessions online by May 14, and you later wish to confirm your attendance or have credit awarded, you will need to file an appeal. Contact ASHA Professional Development (ashaprofdev@asha.org or 800-498-2071, ext. 8593) for information on the appeal process.

The non-refundable fee for an appeal is $50. Appeals for ASHA CEUs are adjudicated individually by the ASHA Continuing Education Board, and may not be granted.

To avoid the expense and uncertainty of an appeal, enter your CE credits online by May 14.
