Description
The purpose of this position is to provide management, via logistical and administrative support, to the Convention and Meetings Program Team, and to ensure an effective and efficient flow of information to and from the Association's volunteer leadership and members. The position manages and supports aspects of the Call for Papers/Posters process for both the annual ASHA Convention and other conferences. The position also supports other high-profile activities, such as the Awards Ceremony held at the Annual Convention. The incumbent may also manage other special projects, as assigned.Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and support the procedures and processes required to facilitate the operations of the Program Team. Support the Program Team by working on the advance planning and programming of the Convention, Schools Conference, and other events/meetings as necessary.
- Serve as a National Office staff point person for the planning and conduct of assigned volunteer committee meetings and conference calls, and the primary liaison with the Convention co-chairs and topic chairs for execution of these activities.
- Manage specific on-site duties at the Annual Convention that may include checking session room sets, working with temporary help and/or student volunteers, supporting the awards ceremony, and other duties as assigned. Some travel is required.
- Manage various other special projects as may be assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Typically Acquired Through
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 2 to 3 years of work experience in a professional association with a range of meeting sizes ranging from 500 to 5,000+ convention attendance
- Familiarity with the Convention and Meetings industry, and development of programming, is preferred
Scope and Depth of Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Expertise with common computer software programs, including MS Word and Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with netFORUM or other AMS databases preferred
- Computer skills necessary to manage an abstract management system, or experience with other relational databases
- Demonstrated good business writing and proofreading skills
Scope and Depth of Non-Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks with competing deadlines, with accuracy and attention to detail
- Superior customer service skills and understanding of member needs
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills
- Ability to travel approximately 10–15 days per year to manage multiple tasks on-site at events
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
