Description
The purpose of this position is to provide expert visual journalist guidance and creative solutions for the print and online editions of The ASHA Leader. Possessing in-depth familiarity with the latest visual trends and creative technological tools for association news magazines and associated social media and online products, the incumbent is expected to conceptualize and carry out the print and online design of each issue, working closely with editors to create visually captivating layout solutions while excelling at meeting deadlines and working both independently and in a team environment.Responsibilities
- Strictly adhering to an established publishing schedule, collaborating closely with editors to create visually compelling layouts for all sections of the print, digital, and mobile-fitted news magazine-and its online representation via social and other media-while striving to continually set, push and explore the visual direction.
- Overseeing and providing expert guidance and forward-looking creative direction for the layout and production of upcoming print and online packages and for advertisements for The ASHA Leader.
- Coordinating with Graphics and Marketing team members as needed to incorporate discrete layout elements into the overall print and online issues.
Qualifications
Knowledge Typically Acquired Through
- Obtaining a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, graphic design or a related field
- A minimum of five years' experience designing news magazines for print, online and preferably mobile
- Managerial experience preferred
Scope and Depth of Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Advanced Photoshop, Illustrator, InCopy
- Flash, HTML, CSS
- Solid understanding of Online User Experience (UX)
- Strong typographic skills
- Video editing, multimedia experience preferred
Scope and Depth of Non-Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in team and cross-team environments
- Time management and organization skills
