Description
The purpose of this position is to perform all aspects of network configuration, administration, and monitoring, including managing SQL servers, security, performance, storage, and disaster recovery, ensuring maximum availability of critical servers and applications; and to evaluate, install, and test hardware and software.Responsibilities
- Installs, configures, and maintains server operating systems and network applications, including Microsoft Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, and Ektron Content Management Server, in a Windows Server 2008 Active Directory environment, including both main office and off-site web servers.
- Installs, configures, and manages Microsoft SQL servers. This includes managing backup and restores, maintaining database access security, controlling user access settings, and basic troubleshooting.
- Manages storage configuration and disaster recovery, including clustered servers, SAN and NAS storage, and disk and tape backup.
- Monitors and troubleshoots network performance to ensure maximum availability and performance, including switches, routers, VLANs, VPNS, VoIP on an Ethernet network, and both client server and browser-based applications running on network.
- Ensures that security is maintained by keeping all systems current with security patches and controlled user access to system.
- Manages network-related projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, meet user specifications, and support the priorities established for Information Systems.
- Maintains synchronization of production, development, and test servers, including both internal servers and customer-facing web servers.
- Performs technology needs assessments, evaluates new technology to determine whether it could be beneficial for the Association, and makes recommendations for purchase.
- Provides technical assistance to staff, primarily members of Information Systems and the Web Team.
Qualifications
Knowledge Typically Acquired Through
- Obtaining a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems Management
- Minimum of 3 years related experience
- Microsoft (MCSE) or equivalent networking certifications
Scope and Depth of Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Full Microsoft Windows Server 2008 environment, including operation system, networking, and server applications
- MS SQL server administration
- Networking technologies and protocols, including VLAN configuration in a switched Ethernet environment, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and wireless protocols
- Storage configuration and maintenance, including enterprise backup and recovery systems, and SAN and NAS storage
- Configuration and maintenance of server application reliability and performance in a Microsoft environment, including Microsoft Exchange Server and SharePoint Server
- Internet security technologies and protocols, including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and virus detection systems
- Configuration and maintenance of web servers that are based on Microsoft Internet Information Service and .net framework
