The incumbent works closely with authors, journal editors, and fellow production and National Office staff to maintain the journals' reputation for high quality and stature in the field. The incumbent is also an active participant in all facets of the Journals Program, working in a team environment to produce materials for both print and Web products and to help the Journals Program undertake special projects designed to enhance the role of ASHA's journals in the association and in the marketplace.
The incumbent also provides editorial services and support to work groups throughout the National Office on an as-needed basis and is expected to be able to independently provide high-quality work on all types of materials, including policy documents, marketing materials, correspondence, and special projects/publications. Production of these materials is to be integrated with journal production responsibilities—balancing priorities, scheduling work, coordinating freelancing (as needed), and providing on-time service for both journals and editorial deliverables.

Independently apply judgment with regard to level of edit, what changes to make, and what revisions to accept or reject.
- Copyedit, proofread, write, and provide basic formatting for all types of editorial, promotional, and technical documents, and be able to provide expert editorial guidance on all matters of editorial style, grammar, and production requirements.
- Participate as part of the Journals Production Team in coordinating journal issue arrangement and organization and in deciding which articles may need to be moved to subsequent issues due to space limitations and schedule considerations.
- Participate as part of the Editorial Services Team to field National Office editorial requests, prioritize and schedule such work with the assistance of the coach, and independently log projects into the production system and track their status and progress.
- Provide feedback as necessary to freelancers and/or to other staff and coordinate work with vendors on all facets of journal production (page composition, provision of electronic deliverables, posting of Web content, and quality control of final proofs). Respond to occasional phone calls or e-mails from authors and/or potential authors regarding points of style and usage, permissions issues, and information on submission of articles.
- Participate in special projects undertaken by the Journals Production and Editorial Services teams to develop greater production efficiencies and improved quality control, to preserve and promote the value and scientific integrity of ASHA's journals, and to maintain high standards of quality and consistency in the communications materials produced by the Association.
