Nevada Assistants (Support Personnel) Requirements

The following information includes audiology and speech-language pathology assistants and support personnel requirements in educational and other practice settings. Audiology

School Setting Requirements

Support personnel are not regulated specifically for practice in school settings.

Statutory and Regulatory Requirements

Audiology apprentices must be licensed and meet educational standards specified by the licensing board which include:

Laws and rules relating to ethics;
Federal laws and rules governing hearing aids;
Infection controls;
Basic hearing science;
Hearing instrument science and fitting practices; and
Audiometric testing and masking.

The on-site training and work experience portion of the in-service training must consist of a minimum of 16 hours per week and 30 weeks per year and may be completed in conjunction with the academic portion of the in-service training.

A hearing aid specialist or an audiologist must act as the sponsor of the apprentice and may not sponsor more than two apprentices at one time.

Apprentices may not have more than two sponsors at one time.

The Licensing Board may require a sponsor to provide to the Board:

A report on the training of and core competencies achieved by an apprentice; and
Proof of compliance with the supervisory responsibilities of the sponsor.
