Charge

Facilitate the ability of all ASHA members and certificate holders to enhance human communication by providing culturally competent services and to provide leadership, guidance, and strategic planning in reviewing, recommending, and developing ASHA policies, procedures, and programs that are responsive to cultural and linguistic influences, particularly those impacting historically underserved and underrepresented populations. These populations include but are not limited to individuals identified by race, ethnicity, culture, language, dialect, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, religion, socioeconomic status, and/or ability.

Commitments/Obligations

  • 2 face-to-face meetings annually, one held in the National Office and one held on Committee Day at the ASHA Convention
  • Monthly conference calls, typically one hour in duration
  • Email messages as needed
  • Work, information exchange, updates, etc conducted via use of Collaborate site

Desired Service Qualifications/Experiences

Familiarity/experience with responding to the influence of cultural and linguistic factors across the discipline including for example, service delivery, professional preparation, acess to services, etc
