Neil J. DiSarno,
Chief Staff Officer for Audiology
Dr. DiSarno has extensive experience as a clinical audiologist, academic, regulator, and ASHA volunteer leader over his more than thirty-year career as an audiology professional. Before embarking on his academic career at Missouri State University, he served in diverse clinical practices that included a school district and treatment center in Alaska, National Acoustics Center in New Zealand, and health-care settings in New York state and Ontario Canada.
Neil also served as chairperson and licensure board member for the State of Missouri. He has developed and taught courses in subjects ranging from pediatric audiology and practice management, to auditory electrophysiology and sign language. Since 1997 he has been department head of communication sciences and disorders at Missouri State University where he also oversees all operations of an on-campus, speech-language-hearing clinic.
Neil is a sought-after speaker on a variety of audiology topics, wrote and received numerous grants, has conducted original research, and has published many articles and papers on topics such as otitis media and academic achievement in Eskimo high school students and programs to help the elderly with impaired hearing. He has been an active volunteer leader, both for his state associations and for ASHA, serving on a variety of ASHA committees and boards including the Council on Clinical Certification and the Academic Affairs Board.
