Chief Staff Officer for Communication
Martin Rome is Chief Staff Officer for Communications for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). In that capacity he oversees ASHA’s internal and external communications activities, directly supervising the public relations and Web programs and monitoring all communications to members and the general public.
Mr. Rome began his career in communications and public relations for Corning Incorporated, where he worked for 16 years, rising to the position of Director of Corporate Communications at the company’s global headquarters in Corning, New York. He then moved to Kelly Services, the international staffing services company, as Director of Public Relations, and then to Merant, an international software company, where he served as Vice President of Corporate Communications. Prior to joining ASHA, Mr. Rome spent 7 years as Vice President for Strategic Communications at Experience Works, a national nonprofit focused on training and job placement for older workers.
Mr. Rome holds a BA in communication from the Ohio State University and an MA in radio and television from Ohio University. He has spoken frequently at a variety of conferences and training forums about topics ranging from corporate image to new employee orientation. Mr. Rome lives in Maryland and has two children and one grandchild.
