Barbara J. Moore, EDD, CCC-SLP, is director of special youth services in Anaheim Union High School District, Anaheim, California. She is an ASHA Board Recognized Specialist in Child Language with extensive administrative and program experience in public education. Along with Dr. Judy Montgomery, Dr. Moore has coauthored Making A Difference for America's Children: Speech-Language Pathologists in Public Schools (2nd ed.) as well as the START-IN, a response to intervention program. Dr. Moore serves as part-time lecturer at Chapman University and California State University, Long Beach in the departments of Communication Sciences and Disorders, teaching courses in school issues and child language. She lectures widely on issues related to special education, response to intervention, and school-based speech-language services.
Dr. Moore has served ASHA and related organizations as a former president of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (1997–1999), the Council of State Speech-Language-Hearing Association Presidents (2000), and the Public School Caucus (1995–1996). She has been a member of the ASHA Member Advisory Group on the No Child Left Behind Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, and former chair and member of the ASHA School Finance Committee (2006–2008). Dr. Moore was elected to serve as a member of the ASHA Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council for 3 years (2008–2010) and for 13 years on the Legislative Council (1995–2007). She also served as a member of the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities (2009–2010) and as topic coordinator for Language and Learning in School-Age Children and Adolescents for the 2008 ASHA Convention.
Dr. Moore is an ASHA Fellow and is a recipient of the Honors of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
