Swallowing Screening in Stroke Patients

When an individual with stroke symptoms is admitted to the hospital, it’s critical to perform a rapid swallowing screening. Most hospitals have implemented some form of screening; however, the majority of these tools are not validated. This program focuses on the current research and best practices while critically reviewing the design and implementation of an optimal screening tool.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • discuss the content of current screening tools
  • articulate the advantages and disadvantages of nursing-administered swallowing screening tools
  • list the components of a well-designed screening tool
