Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM): The Future of Medicare SNF Payments
October 22, 2018
7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. ET
Sponsored by SIG 15, Gerontology
This live online chat will provide an overview of the rationale for changing the way Medicare pays for services provided in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), including concerns regarding overutilization of therapy services. It also places these changes in the context of the overall move away from paying for the amount (or volume of services) and toward payment based on patient characteristics and the value of services. The Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) is a fundamental shift away from paying for the minutes of therapy provided and toward a system of payment that instead is based on patient characteristics. It provides new opportunities for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) to demonstrate their value in this practice setting in terms of both patient care and reimbursement. The following experts will be available for questions:
- Renee Kinder, CCC-SLP, Encore Rehabilitation
- Sarah Warren, MA, is ASHA’s director for health care policy, Medicare
This free event is open to all ASHA members (it is not offered for CEUs).
