Telepractice has the potential to benefit clients with a variety of needs, including those who need speech, hearing and swallowing services. This Perspectives on Telepractice explored three different facets of telepractice. The featured authors reviewed current research on the role of telepractice in dysphagia management, discussed the perspectives of Au.D. students who received training in telepractice, and examined the components of a successful telepractice training program for graduate, speech-language pathology students.

Telepractice has the ability to remotely connect adults and children with communication disorders to a variety of resources. This Perspectives explored two intervention programs administered through telepractice. The featured authors described a protocol for providing training in metacognitive skills to adults with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), and compared the outcomes of an intensive telepractice speech-sound intervention to traditional onsite therapy for overcoming barriers to effective remote evaluations.

This Perspectives addressed the topic of language assessment through telepractice, which may be of particular interest to speech-language pathologists, clinical training programs, and students. Blaiser shared the results of a survey that looked at the types of evaluations telepractitioners used to assess young children who are Deaf/hard-of-hearing. Sutherland and colleagues discussed the results of an Australian study in which school-age students were administered a formal language assessment. The authors offered recommendations for overcoming barriers to effective remote evaluations.

This Perspectives addressed various clinical topics which may be of interest to speech-language pathologists, audiologists, clinical training programs, and students. Short and colleagues discussed reimbursement issues that frequently accompany telepractice services and a process for collecting efficacy data in an effort to change reimbursement policy. Hughes and colleagues compared remote and in-person visual reinforcement audiometry and conditioned play audiometry in young children with cochlear implants. Finally, Cohn and Cason discussed the various telehealth policies and processes that exist across disciplines, and how ASHA members can benefit from resources that exist outside the communication sciences and disorders professions.
