This webinar will answer common questions SLPs may have about working with children with social and/or emotional issues: What types of social/emotional issues (including and beyond those associated with autism spectrum disorder) can children exhibit? Do these issues impact communication development and, if so, how? How can we identify early signs, symptoms, and risk factors of social/emotional disorders in young children? What roles do SLPs play when working with children with social/emotional deficits – in language assessment/intervention and beyond? When do we treat? When do we refer?

Learning Objectives:
You will be able to:

  • identify the impact social/emotional deficits have on communication and classroom functioning
  • design an informal assessment checklist of signs/symptoms of possible social/emotional deficits to differentially diagnose children with communication disorders who may also exhibit social/emotional deficits
  • create a flow chart to determine when it is appropriate to recommend speech-language services and when it is necessary to refer a child to other professionals

Group registration note: A group registration entitles you to view this program one time, on one connection. Any number of people may watch and earn CE credit (ASHA CEUs/professional development hours). The person who will act as group leader should register on behalf of the group.
