Supporting Adolescent Writing: Manipulating Complex Syntax Across Academic Disciplines

This course includes two recorded sessions from ASHA’s 2018 Schools Connect conference, held in July in Baltimore, Maryland. These sessions explore strategies for supporting adolescents who struggle with academic writing. The presenter discusses selecting syntax goals common for struggling adolescents, targeting the complex syntax constructions characteristic of academic texts in the subjects of science and history, and how to combine sentences from science and history texts to align with syntax goals.

The two sessions are:

  • Supporting Adolescent Writing: Manipulating Complex Syntax Across Academic Disciplines (Part I), by Lynne Telesca, PhD, CCC-SLP (93 minutes)
