Preschool Stuttering Therapy: A Practical Approach
Already an ASHA Learning Pass subscriber?
Speech-language pathologists often face uncertainty about whether, when, and how to treat young children who may be showing signs of early stuttering. This webinar is designed to reduce that uncertainty by presenting strategies for evaluating the risk factors that may contribute to the development of chronic stuttering. The program will describe key features of common treatment approaches that support the development of appropriate communication attitudes and involve changes to the communication environment as well as modifications to the preschooler’s speech production and communication abilities. The course will help clinicians evaluate treatment outcomes so they can apply the principles of evidence-based practice in helping young children overcome early stuttering.
You will be able to:
- implement a comprehensive assessment protocol to evaluate the risk for continued stuttering in preschool-age children
- select an appropriate treatment approach to help young children enhance their speech fluency while developing healthy, appropriate attitudes about their communication abilities
- continually assess progress in intervention while adhering to the principles of evidence-based treatment
