Intervention for Students Struggling With Literacy

This course bundle includes three recorded sessions from ASHA’s 2017 Schools Connect conference, held in July in New Orleans, Louisiana. These sessions highlight how SLPs and teachers can collaborate to help elementary through high school students with literacy problems develop the skills they need for academic success. The sessions focus on a blueprint for language-sensitive domain teaching and related intervention, curriculum-based intervention, and integrating oral and written discourse information with existing knowledge to understand narratives.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • Explain a blueprint for language-sensitive domain teaching and describe scaffolding techniques to use with adolescents who struggle with literacy
  • Develop plans to use curricular materials and activities to work on targeted skills areas, combining language intervention with language instruction
  • Describe the major elements of effective discourse-level interventions
