Barbara T. Goodson, MS, CCC-SLP serves on the ASHA Board of Directors as the Chair of the Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council where she has served as the representative from Illinois for the past three years. First elected in 2016, she was recently re-elected to a second three-year-term, and was elected as Chair in July 2018.
Mrs. Goodson is a school based speech language pathologist with over 30 years of experience. Currently, Mrs. Goodson is employed by the Bond County Community Unit #2 School District in Greenville, Illinois where she has been a member of the faculty for 28 years. In addition to state speech language pathology licensure, Mrs. Goodson also holds a Professional Educator License from the Illinois State Board of Education with endorsement in the areas of speech and language, elementary, and early childhood education. For the last 10 years, she has also served as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Education at Greenville University where she teaches language development and early literacy courses, as well as characteristics, assessment, and instructional methods of special education. In addition, Mrs. Goodson mentors and supervises graduate interns and Clinical Fellows on a regular basis. Throughout the course of her career, Mrs. Goodson has also worked in private practice, early intervention, home health, and hospital settings.
A Fellow of the Illinois Speech Language Hearing Association, Mrs. Goodson also served as the 2015 ISHA President and prior, as the Vice President for Professional Services, and Chair of the Representative Council. Mrs. Goodson has also served ISHA in various capacities, most recently serving as a member on the Honor’s and Website Committees. Mrs. Goodson was awarded the Exemplary Public School award from ISHA in 2012, as well as the Outstanding Supervisor award from Eastern Illinois University in 2014. Goodson is a graduate of ASHA’s Leadership Development Program and an Affiliate of ASHA Special Interest Group 16, School-Based Issues.
