West Virginia Becomes First State to Pass ASLP-IC

March 10, 2020

The West Virginia Legislature has unanimously passed legislation approving the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). The bill, H.B. 4375, was approved on March 7—the final day of the legislative session. ASHA expects Governor Jim Justice to sign the bill into law shortly. ASHA recognizes the outstanding advocacy of Vickie Pullins, as well as the support of the West Virginia Speech-Language-Hearing Association and ASHA members across the Mountain State.

Ten states must enact a compact bill for the ASLP-IC to become operative. ASHA is working with the Council of State Governments (CSG) and allied stakeholders to introduce bills in states across the U.S. To date, 11 states have introduced 17 bills for implementing the ASLP-IC. Additional states are expected to pass.
