night, the Senate unanimously passed S. 652, which reauthorizes the Early
Hearing Detection and Intervention Act (EHDI) for five years. We now urge
the House of Representatives to do the same.

authorized under EHDI provide states with resources to develop and sustain
important infant hearing screening and intervention initiatives. These
initiatives can include early hearing screening and evaluation of all newborns,
coordinated intervention, rehabilitation services, and research.
great strides have been made, significant work remains to be done to ensure
that newborns with hearing loss receive timely and appropriate services.
Continued federal funding is necessary to ensure the long-term viability of
state EHDI initiatives, and that screening services are properly linked with
diagnostic and early intervention services.
