ED Opens FY 2017 Personnel Development Grant Competition

May 5, 2017

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education, is inviting applications for the fiscal year (FY) 2017 discretionary grant competition under the Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children With Disabilities—Early Childhood Personnel Center. Applications became available on April 19, 2017, and the deadline for transmittal of applications is June 5, 2017.

The grant competition is authorized under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Examples of eligible applicants include state and local education agencies, institutions of higher education, private nonprofit organizations, Indian tribes or tribal organizations, and for-profit organizations. The purposes of this program are (a) to help address state-identified needs for personnel preparation in special education, related services, early intervention, and regular education to work with children (including infants and toddlers) with disabilities and (b) to ensure that those personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge—derived from practices that have been determined through scientifically based research and experience—to be successful in serving those children.
