ED and HHS Invite Applications for Race to the Top–Early Learning Challenge

September 26, 2012

The U.S. Departments of Education (ED) and Health and Human Services (HHS) invite applications for new fiscal year 2012 awards for the Race to the Top–Early Learning Challenge, Phase 2. The deadline for transmittal of applications is October 26, 2012.

The purpose of the Race to the Top–Early Learning Challenge (RTT-ELC) program is to improve the quality of early learning and development and close the achievement gap for children with high needs. It focuses on improving early learning and development for young children by supporting states' efforts to (1) increase the number and percentage of low-income and disadvantaged children, in each age group of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, who are enrolled in high-quality early learning programs; and (2) design and implement an integrated system of high-quality early learning and development programs and services.
