Humans of ASHA: Paige Drahota

While completing my undergraduate practicum experience, I met a young boy with Down syndrome who truly changed the way I look at the profession. Prior to meeting him I tried to avoid developing connections with the individuals with whom I worked; however, this boy taught me that nurturing a relationship with a client can actually benefit therapy. Working with this student not only reinforced my belief that individuals with disabilities can achieve greatness, but that life is full of joy regardless of the trials we face. He showed me how important it is to laugh, smile, and enjoy each day. I am beyond thankful to have worked with this boy and I will be forever grateful for the lessons he has taught me.
