After realizing the devastating effects that Superstorm Sandy had on my hometown of Sayreville, New Jersey, I decided I had to do something to help my neighbors who lost so much. I gathered canned food, donated to local drives, and I contributed to fundraisers supporting efforts to rebuild. I felt that I wasn't doing enough, though. After much thought, I decided to put together the "Sayreville Shamrock 5K Run" with all proceeds going to the Sayreville Storm Relief Fund. The planning process was daunting but it was all worth it when I handed the check over to the director of the relief fund and she extended her most sincere gratitude. From then on, I knew that I wanted to take on even more leadership opportunities to effect change in a positive way.
