My grandfather was an eye, ear, nose, and throat doctor from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania who had his office on the first floor of his home. He had a steady stream of patients and actually treated the priests and nuns in his local parish free of charge. As a child, I was fascinated by that space. I loved to check out the tuning forks he used to assess hearing and wondered what he saw when he peered into my ears with his otoscope. His model of the anatomy of the ear was particularly interesting to me. I didn't know that the field of audiology existed until I took an introduction to speech and hearing class in college. When that door opened there was no looking back! I have had an extremely rewarding and interesting career and would absolutely choose it again in a heartbeat.
