Addressing Priorities and Sustainability Around Communication in Participating Countries: The ASHA-PAHO Initiative

The goal of the ASHA partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization’s regional office for the Americas, is to strengthen knowledge and build capacity of professionals and institutions that address communication disorders in the areas of speech, language, swallowing, and hearing. First, presenters will discuss how the need for countries to address communication disorders led them to request, and then work with, what subsequently became known as the ASHA–PAHO initiative. Then, presenters will respond to questions about the ASHA–PAHO Initiative in three countries: El Salvador, Honduras and Paraguay.
