Grandfathering Policy for Clinical Specialty Certification

  • The designation Board Recognized Specialist was no longer valid as of January 2014.
  • All individuals who held the designation Board Recognized Specialist on January 1, 2014, became Board Certified Specialists as of that date.
  • All individuals whose applications for Board Recognized Specialist were received by January 1, 2014, were evaluated on the requirements stated in the application packet at the time of submission (electronic date or postmark date). Upon successful completion of all requirements and Specialty Certification Board approval, applicants were awarded the designation Board Certified Specialist.
  • All individuals whose applications for Specialty Certification are received by the Specialty Certification Board after January 1, 2014, will be evaluated on the requirements in effect at the time of submission (electronic date or postmark date). Upon successful completion of all requirements and Specialty Certification Board approval, the applicant will be awarded the designation Board Certified Specialist.
  • Any individual seeking renewal for specialty certification after January 1, 2014, shall meet the renewal requirements of that specialty certification board at the time of renewal. Individuals will maintain the same specialty certification cycle and renewal date that they held for specialty recognition.
