ASHA's Mentoring Programs

Passionate mentoring teaches, inspires, and changes lives.

ASHA supports mentoring as a way to link the passionate professionals in the field with the exceptional student or new professional willing to be paired with a trusted advisor or coach. As a factor in professional success, mentoring is second only to education. Mentoring provides one-on-one opportunities for collaborating, sharing resources, solving problems, and achieving goals. The Power of Passionate Mentoring can and does change lives!

S.T.E.P.

The Student to Empowered Professional (S.T.E.P.) is a virtual mentoring program where mentees and mentors communicate to address a short- or long-term goal via the S.T.E.P. mentoring platform. Mentees and mentors have the option of making arrangements to meet face-to-face; however, face-to-face mentoring isn't a component of the S.T.E.P. program.

Student participants are paired with professionals who provide guidance, feedback, and support for career development in the professions (e.g., academic pursuits, career goals, and exploring areas of interest in the professions) in a meaningful, one-to-one relationship.

As part of our goal to strengthen the S.T.E.P. mentoring experience, all mentees and mentors are enrolled in the ASHA S.T.E.P. Community. The S.T.E.P. Community serves as your go-to place for peer to peer mentoring to connect, learn, and share with other S.T.E.P. mentees and mentors.

MARC

The Mentoring Academic-Research Careers (MARC) program offers one-to-one mentoring opportunities for PhD students and new (0–6 years) tenure track faculty/below the level of associate professor. Visit Mentoring Academic-Research Careers to get full details about the MARC program, including timeline, eligibility and enrollment information.

AMP-S

The Audiology Mentor Program-Students (AMP-S) is a virtual mentoring program where mentees and mentors work together to address the students’ career goals via the AMP-S mentoring platform. Doctor of Audiology (AuD) students are paired with practicing clinical audiologists who provide guidance, feedback, and support to the AuD students in their journey to becoming practicing professionals. All mentors and mentees have access to the ASHA AMP-S Online Community, where they can exchange ideas and share experiences with other mentors and mentees who are enrolled in the program.
